Looking to the future...
We are still several weeks away, but I wanted to give you all a head's up that we have scheduled dates for school pictures in mid-November. We have planned it so that picture days will be the same days as second quarter pick-up days to prevent families from having to make multiple trips to the campus. More information will be coming out soon along with order forms, but I wanted to give you a head's up. Know that we will be following very strict procedures to ensure safety and that pictures are completely voluntary; we recognize that not everyone will participate in pictures and want to assure you that this does not mean that your child's picture will not be in the yearbook. We have plans to make sure every student is featured in the yearbook regardless of weather or not they take 'official' school pictures. What else is going on at Cascade? How do I check my child's grades?
For those of you who are old pros at this secondary education thing, you know how important it is to monitor you child's grades; for those new to the way grading works in middle and high school, welcome, we're a little different than the elementary world! It is very important that you and your child are monitoring their grades through Skyward, our student management system, as this allows you to know how your child is performing in each class as well as start a dialogue with your child and their teacher if assignments are missing or if your child earned a score below what you would expect. Our teachers are very supportive and want all of our kids to be successful so please reach out if you have quesitons! Okay, I'm interested, so how do I check Skyward? Great question! You will find great videos and other resources on the district's Skyward Family Access Page - and, many of the resources and videos are available in multiple languages! If you need additional resources or help navigating Skyward (it can be a tad confusing!) please reach out to Ms. Karen Bell at 253-293-5065 for assistance. Great, got it, but I noticed that my child is getting a poor grade, what do I do now? Reach out directly to your child's teacher and ask how you can help support your child to be successful in their class. Know that our teachers are eager to partner with you and absolutely want your child to be successful in school and in life beyond school! We recognize that you are an expert when it comes to your child and we are experts when it comes to academic achievement, so let's partner together and form the strongest possible team to help your child achieve their amazing potential! If you notice that your child is struggling in multiple classes, it may be time to pull the whole team together; in this case I would recommend contacting your child's counselor and working with them and your child's teachers to create an action plan to support your child. Our counselors are happy to help facilitate meetings with the team and have an ongoing conversation about supports and resources. What else is going on at Cascade?
