Thankfulness
I really will try not to be too corny with my messaging, but I wanted to take a moment to express my thankfulness to the larger Cascade community as we enter the holiday season. We may not all have the same holiday celebrations or traditions but I think we can all agree that being thankful is never a bad thing. I have felt so incredibly lucky over the last year and a half to be the principal at Cascade and to get to know your children, you, the staff and so many members of our incredible community and my thankfulness for my life's path bringing me to Cascade is something that I'm not sure I can fully express. I love this school and I love it because of the people who make up our school community. I am thankful for the supports that we have been given by the district office which has in turn allowed us to provide supports to our students and community. We are never going to be perfect and therefore we will always be working to do better and I am thankful to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who work hard every day to serve your children and our larger community. I have been incredibly impressed and thankful for the response to our PTSA's recent donation drive to help feed more of our families than we ever have before at the beginning of this holiday season. Wow, the call was given and you responded! I am very thankful that I have been in a position to give more generously than ever before this holiday season as I recognize that there is more need in our community than ever before. I had a feeling many of you would feel the same and I am so thankful that I was correct and that our community benefits because of it (I don't often brag about being right, but I will on this one!). I am thankful for all of you and hope that you are taking the time to reflect on the things you have to be thankful for during this most challenging of years. I wish for each and every one of you that you have a restful break, are able to connect with those you love (we'll be connecting with family via Google Meets for our holiday as I would imagine many of you will as well) and that you are safe and healthy for this short break from school. When we return it will be a short three weeks until our extended winter break and we will be working on ways to provide even more supports to our larger community. Warmly, Meg McGroarty, Principal What is going on at Cascade? Ch-ch-ch-changes...
I hope you all are enjoying watching the changing of the colors on the leaves as we round the bend into deep fall/early winter. We are nearing a change in classes at Cascade with the switch from Quarter 1 classes to Quarter 2. Now is a great time to check in with your child and their teachers to make sure they are completing those last-minute assignments and tying up all loose ends. Starting on November 16th students will begin their Quarter 2 classes with three new teachers but will remain (with a few exceptions) with their Sparta Time teachers. Our hope is that by keeping the Sparta Time teacher consistent students will have a known adult who can help them navigate any challenge while they form new relationships with their content-area teachers. As you may have read in Dr. Spiccati's email, we are making a modification to our Monday schedules starting on November 16th as well. We are discussing what options we will have available for supporting students in the afternoons on Mondays as well as how to structure those days in general from an instructional standpoint. Please look for communication around expectations and options from your child's 2nd Quarter teachers to come out near the beginning of the new quarter. New schedules will be updated on our school website shortly. A note on grading: please know that with our quarter system students will have earned the equivalent of an entire semester's grade in this nine-week period. The only exception to this is the Sparta Time class - students will receive a quarter grade for this class with a semester grade posted at the end of the 2nd Quarter. What this means is that the grades for Periods 1-3 are the 'semester' grades and will not be altered, while the Sparta Time grade is a 'mid-point' check and will continue until the end of the next grading period. Also, please note that Sparta Time is being graded on a Pass/Fail scale for all students. I hope that you all are safe and healthy and that your loved ones are as well. We are looking forward to working to continue to serve and support your children and families as we continue our most unique of school years! What is going on at Cascade?
