A Message from the Cascade Middle School Health Room: Emergency Action Plans and Individual Health Plans that have been created for the 2020-2021 school year will be updated and mailed out before the end of the school year for family review and updates. This allows opportunity for families of students with already established Emergency Action Plans and/or Individual Health Plans to provide the Health Room at Cascade Middle School with updated information for the 2021-2022 school year. If your student is currently in 8th grade and rolling up to 9th, the care plans created will be coming from your child's designated High School and not from Cascade. Please return care plans to Cascade Middle School during business hours this summer and/or Scan and email them to: [email protected] Fax to: (253) 833-7580 Medication Authorizations can also be turned into the school or the provided email or fax above at any time prior to the start of the school year on September 8, 2021. (I can start accepting these now for next school year. See attached document for reference). Remember: Each year, on or before the first day of attendance, students who have a life-threatening health condition (Examples: Diabetes, Seizures, Life-Threatening Allergies, Severe Asthma, Cardiac Conditions, etc.) need the necessary orders, medications, equipment, and nursing plan in place to attend school in-person. For your student, the following items are needed:
If it has been determined that your student no longer has a life-threatening condition, please provide a written statement from their health care provider to the Health Room. If your child has developed a new health condition and you feel they may need an emergency action plan, individual health plan, or medications given at school please contact the Health Room to discuss your student's needs. This means that your student will not be allowed to start school in the Fall on day one if they are missing required immunizations and/or do not have a current Certificate of Exemption on file. This requirement for immunization also applies to students who will be remaining in a fully remote online learning method for the 2021-2022 school year. You can find a Certificate of Exemption here: https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Pubs/348-106_CertificateofExemption.pdf Now is the time to start planning to ensure your student is fully compliant with immunizations and can start school on day one, September 8, 2021, in the Fall. If you are uncertain if your student needs immunizations, please reach out to the Cascade Health Room at (253) 931-4995 ext. 6; we can assist you. You may also register with the MyIR Mobile app to gain access and control over your student’s immunization records. MyIR Mobile is in partnership with the Washington State Immunization Information System and the Department of Health and allows you to review your student's immunization history, get reminders for future immunizations, and even print your own official records…it’s all free and just a click away. Visit: https://myirmobile.com/ Paper notices will be sent out in the mail from the Health Room prior to the last day of school with this information, including what immunizations your student requires for entry into school in the Fall, as another form of communication. For more information about iReady testing at home, please click here. Both Mondays students will report to fourth period at the normal time of 9:30am. Instead of moving on to 5th and 6th period, they will stay in 4th period for support until 10:55am and then be released to lunch and independent learning for the day. The meet link to join is: https://meet.google.com/sty-gxjc-ips A Message from the Cascade Middle School Health Room: Ensuring a student’s vision and hearing is not impaired is essential to continued success in learning, both in person and virtually. COVID-19 impacted the school nurse's ability to screen your child’s vision and hearing at school as routinely done. The Cascade Health Room will be working to screen hybrid students for vision (seventh grade only) using the SPOT Photo Screener, focusing on those at greater risk of vision problems. Hearing screening will be completed on a referral basis and only if screening can be conducted safely. If your child is participating in online education or you have concerns regarding your child’s vision, we encourage you to make an appointment with a licensed vision care professional such as an ophthalmologist or optician. For hearing concerns, you should contact your child’s primary care provider. Included is an attachment for your reference for possible signs of vision problems or concerns for your child. Some signs of hearing loss in school-age children are as follows: · Does not follow simple commands, such as “get your shoes,” or understand simple directions · Is easily frustrated or experiences communication breakdowns · Is falling behind with speech and communication skills · Cannot understand what you are saying unless they are looking directly at you · Cannot identify where sounds are coming from · Is exhausted at the end of school from concentrating to understand speech · Shows signs of behavioral problems or social difficulties · Experience's problems keeping up at school or grades slipping Summer School Information:
